Janssen’s was established in 1939 by Mr. Eugene Janssen and his brother George. In 1952 Eugene was elected the charter president of The Rug Cleaners Institute of California now known as The Carpet and Fabricare Institute or CFI to which Janssen’s is still members of to this day. Janssen’s has been at the same Glendale location since 1939. Mr. Janssen later sold the company to Paul and Mary Griffin then in 1981 was bought out by current owners Ralph and Sonja Greco.

In the year 1964, Ralph Greco began his career in the carpet industry installing carpet for various retailers. Then in 1966 Ralph and Sonja Greco became involved in the dry cleaning business of draperies and wall to wall carpet cleaning. After becoming familiar with carpet and drapery cleaning Ralph and Sonja ventured out to become Greco’s Carpet Service in 1968. Greco’s Carpet shampooed carpets and upholstery and. in 1969 they noticed business began to drop as an innovative method of portable steam cleaning, known as Deep Steam, immerged in 1967. By mid 1969, Greco’s had purchased a used portable Steam Way machine.

In 1973, Ralph Greco, designed, engineered and built the first Steam Way prototype truck mounted unit. The next couple of years their business expanded. By the end of 1974, Ralph had built the second Steam Way unit and by 1975 the first production unit was sold.

When Ralph and Sonja Greco merged Greco’s Carpet with Janssen’s they focused on developing new systems in the plant for cleaning upholstery with better cleaning results. As they grew over the years they have concentrated more on continued education to better serve their clients. Their reputation has come from implementing what they have learned over the years and have passed it along to their oldest son Eric Greco, youngest daughter Tanya Barron and son in law Ted Barron.
